The Medicaid Adult Dental Coverage Checker is an interactive tool to help policymakers, administrators, and advocates understand where each state’s Medicaid adult dental benefits fall on a continuum — from no coverage to extensive benefits — and to identify opportunities for improvement.

The Coverage Checker displays self‑reported data submitted annually by state Medicaid dental programs through a national survey (insert link here) developed collaboratively by the American Dental Association Health Policy Institute (ADA HPI), Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS), CareQuest Institute, and an advisory committee of oral health and state policy experts.
The Coverage Checker currently includes data for 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Each dataset reflects the benefit package in place as of December 31 of the prior year. For example, the 2026 Coverage Checker corresponds to adult dental coverage as of December 31, 2025.
