Provider and Patient Perspectives
Can artificial intelligence (AI) facilitate dental providers’ diagnoses and educate patients about their oral health conditions?
Apple Tree Dental, an innovative dental organization in Minnesota, and CareQuest Institute published an article in Frontiers in Oral Health that examines oral health providers’ and patients’ perspectives about the use of AI software in clinical dental care. Specifically, the study, which found positive results, focused on use of AI-enhanced radiographs in the diagnostic and patient education processes.
Key findings:
- Dentists and dental therapists noted that the software facilitated their diagnostic process and helped them better educate their patients about their oral health conditions.
- Dental hygienists and assistants noted that the AI software added time to their workflow in terms of time needed to open the software individually for each patient.
