The DentaQuest Partnership will be presenting a poster titled “Oral health promotion and dental care access for children through school-based services” at the 2019 National School-Based Health Convention in Washington, D.C. on Monday, June 24. This research examines the impact of school-based dental services (SBDS) including: sealant application, fluoride treatment, cleanings, and diagnostic services, among children aged 0-20 using administrative claims data from 2013 to 2015. For some children, SBDS represent their first encounter with a dental provider and often serve as a gateway for future oral health care. Findings from this study demonstrate that SBDS provide a unique opportunity to foster person-centered care by providing dental services to children who otherwise may not receive such services.
