Course Description

The path to optimal health often requires an integrative, empathetic approach. This is especially true when caring for patients undergoing cancer treatments, where oral health plays a pivotal role.

This course will explore pre-treatment evaluation, nutrition and oral health care during treatment, and post-radiation oral care best practices. We will identify the primary components of pre-treatment evaluation and essential patient information required to provide optimal oral health care to those with head and neck cancer, describe recommendations for managing oral care and treatment side effects during cancer therapy, and develop communication skills needed to deliver personalized care.

Learners will leave with the confidence to incorporate strategies to address the fears and concerns of patients undergoing surgery, radiation, and/or chemotherapy, helping clear obstacles that may exist as these patients access critical oral health care.
