Support to The American Dental Hygienists’ Association Institute of Oral Health to convene and co-host a national symposium in association with the Santa Fe Group to examine and recommend potential changes to dental hygiene educational curricula as it relates to current and future dental hygiene practice, the dental workforce environment, and overall patient healthcare. This symposium is intended to drive discussion towards specific actionable strategies that will include new core competencies within the dental hygiene curriculum based on improving patient health. Specific focuses include: changes in the healthcare environment informing the transformation of the dental hygiene profession; broaden the range of roles that dental hygiene could play in current and new models of healthcare; define the skills, attitudes, and competencies needed by dental hygienists to meet future public healthcare needs.
