The North Dakota Department of Health will implement a plan to include the Smiles for Life oral health curriculum in medical and nursing school curricula, preparing future caregivers to work as a collaborative team in practice, and as policy is adapted, will work to expand the roles of medical providers by restructuring medical codes for fluoride varnish application, and oral health screening and risk assessments. Implementation of a long-term care pilot project will lead to improved oral health care outcomes for elderly patients as they receive coordinated, patient-centric, preventive care from health providers across disciplines.
