Support enables the University of Iowa Foundation to examine access to oral health services in Iowa for underserved populations, uninsured patients seeking care at FQHCs and Medicaid enrollees seeking care at public and private clinics statewide. The study aims to compile an inventory of data related to access to dental care in Iowa, assess the current capacity of the state's safety net, determine the current level of private dentist participation in Medicaid and factors affecting participation, and utilize existing state and national advisory committees to interpret these data and develop policy recommendations. The results of this work will serve as a national model to improve access to care for underserved populations.
