This project aims to increase access to dental care for underserved children within 5 geographically and demographically diverse school districts in California; by addressing barriers to access to care for schoolchildren through the promotion of health promoting policies. The Center for Oral Health (COH) will utilize the School Oral Health Guidebook, developed in collaboration with the California School Board Association with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, to inform and support school board members and administrators to develop effective school-based oral health policies. In 2010, COH worked with the Berkeley Unified School District to successfully develop a series of oral health policies, leading to adoption of a conceptual framework by the District. COH will build upon and expand their success in Berkeley to other communities.
