Tensions are high within the community of oral health care providers and between dental and medical providers in Maine. The Maine State Alliance for Oral Health will examine the influence and social networks existing within these communities and use them to create informal, personal lines of communications to effectively include and engage the oral health provider community. The Alliance will bring the oral health care community into two large demonstration projects that address the medical/dental interface and finance models. The result should be improved relationships leading to institutionalization of oral health within the community of health care innovators that is leading health care reform in Maine.
