This program is developing a working partnership of patient advocates and dental providers to address disparities among an underserved population at high risk for significant health complications from poor oral health throughout Florida. NSU Training in Special Care Dentistry has completed curriculum development and will train case managers in the importance of oral health status to systemic health and methods to effectively support their clients' gain access to oral health care. Dentists will receive training on the management of oral health services for persons with special healthcare needs (PSHCN), individuals who are medically, mentally or physically compromised. Through the combined efforts of Children’s Medical Services, Nova Southeastern University, and the Florida Dental Association, this program will demonstrate a significant impact on improving both access to care and overall oral health status.
