Support to the Cape Cod Foundation in its role as fiscal agent for the Oral Health Excellence Collaborative (OHEC). OHEC has proven to be highly effective at engaging the provider community, increasing awareness of issues of oral health, and increasing access to oral health services for a population of underserved children and adults throughout Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties. OHEC’s efforts have had a direct impact on the systems of care and community throughout Cape Cod and the Islands as access to care has notably increased and diverse stakeholders are engaged in developing solutions to oral health issues. The Coalition has successfully met their goals for past DQF funding and is now focused on maintaining its efforts to increase access for the constituents they serve. Due to its success, OHCE should be at the point of achieving a level of self-sustainment, but the economic downturn has made the group vulnerable to shutting its doors. The proposed funding will allow for time to seek alternative funding or to develop a carefully thought out plan to wind down and seek others to take on some of the priorities of OHEC. The proposed funds include a $40,000 grant and a subsequent match of funds from other stakeholders up to $30,000.
