THI has been engaged with CareQuest Institute since 2015. The current grant has allowed THI to engage with eight diverse community-based organizations to elevate and center community voice in developing and implementing a strategic roadmap to realize the vision of oral health equity for Texans. This effort builds upon previously funded work and fills an important gap in public policy efforts that have historically excluded community participation in policy planning, design, and implementation.
This proposal falls under the subprogram Strengthen Community Voice and State advocacy. THI's work has revealed critical gaps in access for minority populations, specifically for LGBTQ+, non-English speaking, disabled, and immigrant populations in Texas. To address this, THI will conduct a landscape scan of current statewide efforts and resources that increase access to culturally and linguistically appropriate care. In addition, THI will develop a state-level dashboard with state and local population health data. This dashboard will be used to prioritize issues for the 2025 legislative session.
The budget for this proposal is $184,848, which represents 4% of the total organizational budget. Budget items include personnel, in person meeting expenses, community-based organization stipends ($5,000 to 4 organizations), and $50 stipends to 30 learning lab participants.
