Heart Ministry Center (HMC) is a health and social services center in North Omaha, Nebraska. After experiencing a nearly 200% increase in clients requiring oral health services from 2022 to 2023, HMC embarked on an oral health systems change approach. HMC has partnered with Community Catalyst for the past year for technical assistance to prepare them for this work. They have also connected with Nebraska Appleseed as a thought and advocacy partner to leverage and expand the reach of their oral health policy agenda, once established.

This proposal falls under the sub program Strengthen Community Voice and State Advocacy as it directly pursues the voice of the impacted community through trauma-informed interview practices to identify client needs through surveys and video interviewing. The video and report produced will support a larger change strategy to impact oral health policy that represents the priorities identified by the Center’s community members.

Key Activities include:
Perform 75 client video interviews and develop key themes from videos and surveys in partnership with Nebraska Appleseed that lead to policy solutions.

The budget for this proposal is $150,000, which represents 4% of the organizational budget. Included in the budget are funds for personnel to gather and coordinate patient interviews and subcontracts with Nebraska Appleseed and a videographer to gather patient testimonies.
