The workshop, “Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education (IHPE Forum)” will provide opportunities for participants to learn from projects and programs that measure the value of interprofessional holistic oral health education.

Individual speakers will be asked to describe oral health education across professions to train health professionals on caring for the entire person (mind, mouth, body, and spirit), then describe or explore metrics to measure how such an approach benefits underserved communities. Projects will draw upon examples from around the globe and across the learning continuum to potentially include students and trainees in their foundational years, faculty development, workplace learning, and continuing professional development.

This workshop aims to impact the lives of persons with disabilities and those living in underserved communities by demonstrating the value of educating all health professionals on oral health promotion and prevention, underscored by a financial return on investment. An outside writer will be hired to draft a workshop proceedings that will be made available to the general public on the National Academies’ website free of charge.
