This investment supports Center for Health Progress’ documentary short called “The Essentials” and virtual premiere event. This documentary focuses on the impact of COVID-19 on immigrants in Colorado, highlighting stories of specific people and families. These stories include the experiences of a Black teen who faces discrimination at school and in her community, and a cancer survivor whose husband contracted COVID-19 while at work and brought it home to their family. These individuals speak to their struggles with access to healthcare, which are exacerbated due to the pandemic. There was a virtual film premiere on November 10, in both English and Spanish, which included the film screening and a panel discussion with individuals from the film. The Center for Health Progress is planning to take the film on the road and do showings in the communities featured in the film, and include screening events talking to legislators about 2021 health care legislation that affects immigrants.
