The purpose of this grant is to continue to build the capacity of healthcare consumers in California to meaningfully engage in policy and systems change; to improve the public perception of the value of oral health to overall health; to enhance collaborative, cross-blade infrastructure processes, shared power, and decision-making; and to elevate health equity and social justice approaches within the Oral Health Progress and Equity Network that are fully informed by, and reflective of, community voices.
As a trusted community messenger, promotores serve as critical conduits for health information and access. Vision y Comprimiso, in their growing network of promotores in California and across the state serve as community-based voice with a provider lens. Vision's work in 2019 will be to continue to leverage this network of promotores and continue to find new and innovative ways to weave oral health into their portfolio of skills. Through distribution and use of a Oral Health Promotores toolkit, Vision will increase the capacity of partners in California and nationally to more meaningfully see oral health as a part of overall health. Similarly, Vision will work to galvanize their network to support greater systemic change and policies that are focused on oral health equity and filing the access gaps.
This aligns with the Oral Health 2020 goal of shifting the public perception of oral health with a target of increasing oral health in overall health dialogue and in public policy. The budget for this proposal is $70,800 and is primarily to support time, travel and supplies connected with implementing the work.
