The purpose of this grant is to support Vision y Compromiso (VyC)in hosting their 17th Annual Conference for Promotoras and CHWs: Hacia Una Vida Digna y Sana (Healthy and Dignified Living for All), which brings together 1,000 promotoras and community health workers throughout the U.S. Each year, VyC brings these leaders together with dynamic keynote speakers of political and cultural significance, and engages them in interactive discussions and cutting-edge workshops that highlight innovative practices from the field of community health. Presentations build skills and validate the role of promotores in improving access to quality health care and advocating for health equity and policy change. This year, VyC’s conference will be held on September 26-28, 2019 at the Ontario Convention Center in San Bernardino County, California. Designed by VyC’s staff and our volunteer Conference Planning Committee, plenaries and related workshops will focus on: 1) How promotores model healthy living, 2) Promotores in action spreading the seeds of change, (3) Understanding how the current economic, political and social context influences health, and (4) The expanding role of promotores in health care reform. Exhibitors, demonstrations and screenings will be offered during breaks, meals and before and after the conference. The amount recommended to fund this grant is $10,000 and goes to time and supplies to host the event.
