This investment supports the Campaign for Dental Health (CDH), housed in the American Academy of Pediatrics, to engage pediatricians on ways to integrate preventive oral health care into primary care pediatric settings and continue to support public health advocates and key national stakeholders with the resources and tools necessary to promote community water fluoridation (CWF) efforts across the country. CDH has been the primary national partner supporting efforts to promote, protect, and expand community water fluoridation across the network. However, with its position in the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), CDH has access to a critical partner towards the person-centered target: pediatricians. As such, CDH will prioritize new work to engage this group in 2019 while maintaining critical resources related to CWF. Specifically, CDH will engage pediatricians on ways to integrate preventive oral health care into primary care pediatric settings (with a specific advocacy and collaboration component); continue to collaborate with health professionals and civic organizations representing communities of color, building their awareness of the importance of oral health and CWF as a means to address it; and maintain and update ilikemyteeth.org with new content. Moving forward, it is critical that this work builds upon existing resources and creates opportunities for deeper engagement between oral health advocates and pediatricians. $133,711 will be used to support personnel time for program implementation, coordination of collaborative efforts with partner organizations, grant reporting, budget management; meeting expenses; an update to the CDH website; and other administrative costs.
