Maryland: This investment supports the University of Maryland to gain a more comprehensive and detailed qualitative understanding of the factors that promote and support or limit pregnant women and their infants and young children from benefiting from integrated, science-based and timely social services and dental and medical health care delivery services that are aligned with home care support. This project is an essential precursor to, and will inform, the establishment of a prepared and incentivized network of health, social service, and community provider workforce that includes support for home based services led by the “mom.” The outcomes of this project will contribute to addressing oral health education and service needs of pregnant women within patient centered health home efforts. $139,093 will support staff time to implement the project, travel associated with conducting focus groups, and participant incentives. The proposal aligns with the Oral Health 2020 Goal 4 of eradicating dental disease in children and the target of having 75% of children reach age 5 without a cavity.
