New Mexico: This investment supports Presbyterian Medical Services in their effort to operate the only medical and dental patient-centered clinic in two rural counties of New Mexico, Artesia Health Center. Due to higher than statewide averages for poverty, transportation problems, lack of insurance, and lack of money, the 120,000 residents of Chaves and Eddy Counties suffer from severe dental neglect as well as a severe shortage of dentists. Due to an emergency lack of access to oral health care, the City of Artesia granted the Health Center $500,000 to expand and create three dental operatories. Grant funds provided through the Community Response Fund will improve access to care and equip the Clinic with a Compressor that can handle the expansion to three functioning operatories and a second dentist.
