This investment supports the Boston Area Health Education Center (BAHEC), in partnership with the Office of Oral Health at the Boston Public Health Commission, to develop, implement, and disseminate an oral health and health equity curriculum designed for youth of color. The Be the Change: For Oral Health Equity program is designed to educate youth about the importance of oral health and oral health inequities, empower youth to advocate for policies to improve oral health equity in their community, and expose youth from medically underserved populations to health careers. BAHEC delivers a range of in-school, after-school and summer programs to Boston Public School middle and high school students. In FY14, BAHEC delivered in-school programming to over 300 students in eight Boston schools. $18,300 will support the implementation and execution of the program, including salaries, equipment, marketing materials and the retention of a media consultant. Grant funds provided through the President’s Fund to improve health equity for an underserved population and support the Fund’s focus on youth leadership.
