This investment supports the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) to assess, analyze, monitor, and disseminate information about states' activities and strategies to promote adult dental coverage in Medicaid benefits and in plans offered through the Affordable Care Act Marketplaces. The assessment will focus on effective strategies and roadmaps, program administration, financing mechanisms, and engagement of legislative champions and leaders for advocacy. The investment will provide resource information and strategy/policy options to support the activities of the oral health network to promote states' capacity to offer adult dental benefits through Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act Marketplaces. $248,502 will support the staffing and convening capacity necessary to develop and spread an issue report and presentation materials. The grant funds provided align with the OH 2020 Goal 1 of mandatory inclusion of an adult dental benefit in publicly funded health insurance and the specific target that at least 30 states will have a comprehensive Medicaid adult dental benefit.
