This investment, through the President’s Fund, supports the South Street Youth Center (SSYC) to engage young residents living in the South Street Development, in Boston, to participate in the development and implementation of a community-based oral health equity intervention. Young residents of the development participate in SSYC’s Colossal Peace Crew (CPC), which is made up of a group of middle and high school youth in grades seven through twelve engaged in ongoing leadership development, mentoring, and social justice activism. This project is consistent with the President’s focus to empower youth to participate in health improvement strategies and solutions for their local community of 320 residents, forty-five percent of which are children under the age of 18 living in diverse households, and sixty-five percent of which have a total income of less than $10,000 per year. $12,177 will support training, outreach skills and resources, and a communications capacity to the CPC. Grant funds provided through the Presidents Fund support the goals and focus of the Foundation President.
