Funding to support the Alaska Dental Society to hold their first Mission of Mercy (MOM) event April 11-12th, 2014 in Anchorage, AK. Activities will include: providing free access to dental care to an estimated 2000 high need patients; raising public awareness of the increasing difficulty low-income children and adults face in accessing critical dental care; encouraging low-income patients, policymakers, and oral health professionals to work together to reduce the disease burden; and increasing the oral health literacy of the participants. The MOM event activities align with the Foundation’s focus on responding to urgent community needs and will engage key stakeholders to demonstrate the oral health needs of Alaskans and advocate for important policy changes to reduce disparities. Grant funds will support operating costs of the MOM event.
