This grant supports the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) to analyze and synthesize innovative state policy options for integrating oral health into care for chronic or high-cost medical conditions in order to broaden and enrich effective solutions to integrate oral health into overall health. Specifically, NASHP will convene a one-day pre-conference session in conjunction with its Annual State Health Policy Conference, held in October 2017; conduct an environmental scan to identify recent state-level activity around oral health policy as it relates to linking oral health and chronic or high-cost medical conditions in Medicaid payment or delivery reform initiatives; and synthesize findings in an issue brief to be disseminated to key state and oral health stakeholders. $119,309 will be used to support the staffing and convening capacity necessary to implement this work. This proposal aligns with the Oral Health 2020 Goal of integrating oral health into person-centered healthcare, and the target that, by 2020, oral health is integrated into at least 50% of emerging person-centered care models.
