California: Support to the California Pan-Ethnic Health Network (CPEHN), which works to promote health equity by advocating for public policies and resources to address the health needs of communities of color. In Year Two, CPEHN’s approach to engaging community has been to share and build upon their findings to develop the community-driven policy agenda. To accomplish this, CPEHN compiled and analyzed findings from the community assessments and shared them with Core Partners through regularly scheduled monthly calls. Together, CPEHN and the core partners developed a presentation and forum on the Landscape Assessment and returned to communities to present the findings from the community oral health landscape assessment, facilitated additional discussions with community members, and co-prioritized policy solutions for the coming years. CPEHN’s core partners were instrumental in providing feedback around how to connect with community members, shape the materials for discussions, and capture the community findings. While CPEHN continues assessing the information from the second round of meetings and stakeholder summits, they were able to capture high level findings into a solid policy agenda to move forward on oral health equity in California. Oral Health 2020 investment of $100,800 will be used to support implementation of the Community-Driven Oral Health Plan, which includes the priorities of 1) Creating affordable, comprehensive oral health coverage for all, 2) Improving the quality of oral health care, 3) Ensuring a more integrated, culturally competent oral health care system, 4) Expanding healthy food environments, and 5) Increasing socioeconomic opportunities that intersect with oral health. This proposal aligns with the Oral Health 2020 Goal 6 of improving the public perception of the value of oral health to overall health and the target that oral health is increasingly included in health dialogue and public policy.
