The Theater Offensive is requesting support for its creative youth arts program True Colors: Out Youth Theater. Out Youth Theater is the longest running program of The Theater Offensive and the oldest LGBT youth theater in the United States. True Colors uses a proven community-engaged theater model to train and motivate LGBTQ and allied youth leaders. True Colors creates a safe space where LGBT youth and their allies are challenged and supported to engage fully in their personal, social, and artistic development. True Colors was recently named a 2015 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award (NAHYP) Finalist by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities and its partner agencies, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. For youth participants, True Colors is life-changing and often times enhances the overall health and wellbeing of youth. Two in five youth are currently or have been homeless, 67% of youth live in neighborhoods facing violence, 65% are youth of color, 65% are from low-income families. The Theater Offensive is requesting event sponsorship of $1,000 to support the 2016 True Colors program honoree is Eric H. Schultz, President and CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare.
