California: Eisner Pediatric & Family Medical Center’s (Eisner) is a federally qualified nonprofit community health center that operates a School-Based Portable Dental Clinic Program. Eisner’s portable dental clinic provides free or low-cost preventative and restorative dental services to children at four underserved schools in South and Central Los Angeles and to low-income seniors at St. Barnabas Senior Services Center. This program serves the communities of Westlake (St. Barnabas only), Downtown Los Angeles, and South Central Los Angeles. The schools’ student body is primarily Latino and the schools themselves are designated as Title 1, indicating a high population of children from low-income families. Additionally, the communities served have been designated as Medically Underserved Areas, which are characterized by high infant mortality rates, shorter life expectancies, and chronic, preventable diseases. The community’s specific to the school locations are also designated as Dental Health Professional Shortage Areas Requesting Community Response Fund support in the amount of $11,000 to purchase a second digital X-ray sensor. An additional digital X-ray sensor will allow the portable dental clinic program to be simultaneously operated at multiple sites, increase patient access and program capacity, and deliver quality care to all individuals in need. A full breakdown of the equipment cost and what will be purchased is detailed in the proposal.
