Support to United Way of Roanoke Valley (UWRV) to act as a lead convener in the Roanoke community as part of the Grassroots Engagement Strategy. Healthy Roanoke Valley is an initiative of UWRV formed as a community-driven effort focused on increasing access to care, coordination of care, and overall community wellness. During the Year One – Learn/Plan/Assess Phase of the work, Health Roanoke Valley accomplished the following: built on the findings of the 2015 Roanoke Valley Community Health Needs Assessment, collected additional secondary data to create an “Oral Health Profile” of the community, conducted a community-based survey on oral health needs and perceptions of oral health, engaged stakeholders and community members to determine how and where we should leverage community members and partnerships in year two, and provided community engagement training to leaders and oral health champions. Oral Health 2020 investment of $100,000 will be used to 1) Improve the oral health IQ and the value of oral health in the Roanoke Valley and 2) Create a community-driven strategic plan to address oral health priorities in the Roanoke Valley. This investment aligns with the Oral Health 2020 goal to improve the public perception of the value of oral health to overall health.
