National: Support to the New York University College of Nursing (NYUCN) to continue to lead the Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice (OHNEP) Initiative aimed at developing, implementing, and evaluating the impact of a replicable interprofessional model for integrating interprofessional oral health competencies in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Building upon the initiative’s outcomes and achievements in Years 1-5, the goals of the OHNEP for Year 6 are to: expand support for the OHNEP model for integration of interprofessional oral health and clinical competencies in nursing programs, with a particular focus on faculty development, curriculum integration, and establishment of best practices in undergraduate Bachelor’s and Associate degree nursing programs; disseminate a replicable national clinical education and best clinical practice model for integrating interprofessional oral health competencies in clinical settings; expand engagement with external health promotion organizations to advance oral health advocacy, education, and policy initiatives for pregnant women, children, and older adults; and expand OHNEP’s leadership position as a national interprofessional oral health champion committed to increasing oral health for all. The proposal will help advance the systems change outcome of integrating oral health into all aspects of healthcare. The grant funds provided align with the Oral Health 2020 goal of integrating oral health into person-centered healthcare and the target that oral health is integrated into at least 50% of emerging person-centered care models. $335,040 will support staff time associated with coordinating the initiative, evaluation, travel, as well as convening and workshop expenses.
