Florida: Community Response Fund support of $21,898 will directly address Children Volunteer Health Network’s patient needs by improving effectiveness, efficiency and experience through the purchase of a dental chair and delivery unit that is suited for both a left handed and right handed dentist. This support will also allow CVHN to extend their current hours of treatment and increase the number of patients that they see because two dentists can now be accommodated in the present dental operatory. CVHN operates a stand-alone Dental Clinic located in Walton County Florida which serves school-age children in Walton and Okaloosa Counties unable to afford access to dental care. In 2015, Walton County ranked 38th in overall health state county health rankings, with 24% of families being medically uninsured and an estimated 60% having no form of dental insurance. Although CVHN is a private 501(c)(3), supported in large part by community contributions, they begin filing for Medicaid reimbursements in 2013 to diversify revenue streams and promote sustainability.
