Health Law Advocates (HLA) is requesting President’s Fund support for their Oral Health Advocacy for Low-Income Massachusetts Consumers project. Every year, HLA provides free legal representation to help dozens of low-income clients access and/or afford oral health. They also advocate for system-wide improvements, typically through policy advocacy to improve access to and affordability of oral health care for low-income population. HLA conducts many of these activities in partnership with others in the advocacy, government and medical communities. HLA attorneys will engage in both individual legal representation and broader systemic advocacy to improve access to and affordability of oral health care for low-income Massachusetts residents. During the grant year they expect to provide assistance for approximately 33 consumers, which has been their average oral health caseload over the past five years. A grant of $10,000 will support about one third to one half of that caseload.
