National: Support to the American Board of Dental Public Health (ABDPH) to review and update the set of core competencies that are used to identify the skills, knowledge, and understanding expected of all recently trained dental public health specialists. Once a new set of competencies is developed, they will be published in the Journal of Public Health Dentistry and disseminated widely to all stakeholders. They will be used to accredit programs, train dental public health specialists, and test candidates for diplomat status. With a new set of competencies, the new generation of specialists will be able to better meet the needs of the communities they serve. This partnership will result in the promotion of the Oral Health target of 75% of children reaching age 5 without a cavity through the driver of care provider engagement. $53,000 will support consultant services, meeting expenses, publication, and travel associated with implementation of this work.
